Whether you're tying the knot or simply living together, your partner could be entitled to some of your assets if the relationship ever ends. If you're bringing a lot to the table (property, inheritance, cash), it pays to make sure you're protected.

We know it's not the easiest conversation: "I want to spend the rest of my life with you… but first, can you sign my BFA?" - But it's the smart thing to do, and we've got strategies to make it way less #awks.

Even if you're in a de facto relationship, it's worth having the conversation about a Binding Financial Agreement (or prenup, as our American friends call them).

In this session, Catherine shares the most common mistakes she sees women make when preparing for marriage. She'll cover how to protect your finances, property and children, and how to approach big decisions with preparation and confidence.

Hi, I'm Catherine Hillis

Catherine is an Accredited Specialist in family law, who practises exclusively in family and relationship law. She was previously employed as a Legal Associate to the Honourable Justice Cronin in the Family Court of Australia. Her understanding of the court complements her strong analytical and commercial skills. Catherine has an empathetic approach and is committed to achieving the best results for her clients.

Catherine is named in the 2027 edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Australia™ in recognition of her outstanding work in family law. In 2025, she was named in the national peer review publication, Doyle's Guide, as a Leading Parenting and Children's Matters Lawyer for Victoria. Catherine has experience in all areas of family law from financial agreements, complex financial and property matters to parenting disputes. Prior to working in family law, she worked at a commercial firm, gaining experience in insolvency and banking and finance law. This experience forms the foundation of her strategic approach to family law matters and particularly complex property matters.
